AC Students Win Information Technology Awards

Amarillo College students were well represented in the winner’s circle at the regional meeting of the U.S. Information Technology Collegiate Conference (USITCC) hosted Oct. 25-27 at AC.

Seven AC students won medals at the event that drew 145 students from 14 colleges and universities to Byrd Business Building on AC’s Washington Street Campus.

Additionally, two AC alumni currently attending regional universities also collected hardware at the competitive event.

Leading the way for AC was Cailynn White, who garnered first place in the C-sharp competition and captured second place in Database Design.

AC’s Robert Cox and Nick Stevens teamed up for second place in the C-sharp event, while AC’s Andrew Hands finished third in the category.

Cox also placed third in the Java contest, while Hands received honorable mention in Java.

AC’s John Emery and Freddy Pavez captured third place in Office Solutions, and Julian Jacquez won honorable mention in Mobile Applications.

AC alumni Christopher Coffee and Jockson Bilbrey placed first and third, respectively, in Mobile Applications. Coffee presently attends West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), while Bilbrey is attending Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU), which co-hosted the USITCC conference.

Schools that joined co-hosts AC and OPSU at the event are Brookhaven College, Cameron University, Hardin-Simmons University, Missouri State University—Springfield, Northwestern State University of Louisiana, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Phillips College, Tarleton State University, Texas State University, University of Mississippi and WTAMU.
