Computer Systems Engineer, School of Computer Science & Information Technology

Permanent Whole Time Post 

Applications are invited for the position of Computer Systems Engineer in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology. Reporting to the Computer Systems Manager, the Computer Systems Engineer will work in a growing and dynamic academic unit (two new programmes introduced in 2018 with consequent increase in staff) and provide technical support to students and staff with a special focus on specialised computer devices and associated software, e.g. Internet of Things and embedded systems, multimedia and human-computer interface devices including VR/AR.

The successful candidate will have experience with common embedded system platforms (and associated embedded operating systems) such as Arduino, Galileo or Raspberry Pi and/or experience with multimedia and human-computer interface devices and/or exp/or experience with other relevant computer hardware/devices. S/he will have a degree in computer/electronic engineering or another discipline providing skills in specialised computer devices, and/or equivalent demonstrable work/project experience. S/he will have excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, good communication skills and high level of organisational ability will be required. S/he will have a flexible approach to work together with an ability to successfully manage a heavy workload. S/he will have the ability to quickly research and find solutions to problems, sometimes under time pressure. S/he will have an ability and willingness to work successfully on own initiative or as part of a team as required.
